My Village - Limbang

My village - Kampung Merasam is situated in the outskirt of Limbang Town and near to the border between Brunei and Limbang. It has been 4 years since the last time I been there. A few months ago I eventually get a chance to have a week trip to Limbang with my grandma.

On day 1 - After half an hour duration journey by flight from Miri to Limbang we finally landed around 4.00 p.m. My grandfather and family members were there to fetch us home. Before that, we head over to town searching for food to fill our empty belly. The first meal I had in Limbang was a bowl of luscious Mee Jawa and a mug of Horlick peng. The gravy of the Mee Jawa is the best! its thick, slightly sweet, a little bit tart that came from the calamansi lime and I could chew some miniature chunks of the sweet potato. Jeez, it tastes really good!

Done with belly-filling, we then head straight away home. It tooks about half an hour drive from Limbang town to the village. Another long journey to go. It goes like - driving uphill, then downhill then uphill again, passing bridges and the bumpy road really make it felt like we were riding a horse or roller coaster. Despite of those distraction, I still get to enjoy a wonderful view of nature along the journey.

Sweet pineapples
We finally arrived at 6 in the evening. My whole body aching! We rest for a little while, clean ourselves, have dinner and get on bed early that night. I woke up at 9 in the morning, quickly jumped out of my bed and rushed to the front door and guess what did I saw? Paradise... Inhaling unpolluted fresh air be like ahhh... and in my mind - "this is exactly how a village should be. Tranquilising."

Longan fruit
When it comes to food, I am the most excited one wondering what are we going to have. By far, my palate did not resist any of the delicacies even the bizarre meal tastes quite good. In the evening, I went to my grandfather's fruit orchard and stroll around the village. The weather? - very stuffy at noon yet super-cold at night.

In the next upcoming days, we went to town and do a lot of shopping. We bought some traditional kuih and keropok (heavy and light snacks), dried Tahai fish, clothes, souvenirs and other goods. Besides Limbang, we also visit the neighbouring country - Brunei Darussalam. On the final day, we woke up very early at dusk, packing up our stuff, and get ready for the long journey to head back to Miri but this time by car passing Brunei. The duration was almost 4 hours. Totally exhausting and butt-cramping! Yet eventually, the trip ended up well as planned. Another wonderful experience gained.
