My Village - Limbang

My village - Kampung Merasam is situated in the outskirt of Limbang Town and near to the border between Brunei and Limbang. It has been 4 years since the last time I been there. A few months ago I eventually get a chance to have a week trip to Limbang with my grandma.

On day 1 - After half an hour duration journey by flight from Miri to Limbang we finally landed around 4.00 p.m. My grandfather and family members were there to fetch us home. Before that, we head over to town searching for food to fill our empty belly. The first meal I had in Limbang was a bowl of luscious Mee Jawa and a mug of Horlick peng. The gravy of the Mee Jawa is the best! its thick, slightly sweet, a little bit tart that came from the calamansi lime and I could chew some miniature chunks of the sweet potato. Jeez, it tastes really good!

Done with belly-filling, we then head straight away home. It tooks about half an hour drive from Limbang town to the village. Another long journey to go. It goes like - driving uphill, then downhill then uphill again, passing bridges and the bumpy road really make it felt like we were riding a horse or roller coaster. Despite of those distraction, I still get to enjoy a wonderful view of nature along the journey.

Sweet pineapples
We finally arrived at 6 in the evening. My whole body aching! We rest for a little while, clean ourselves, have dinner and get on bed early that night. I woke up at 9 in the morning, quickly jumped out of my bed and rushed to the front door and guess what did I saw? Paradise... Inhaling unpolluted fresh air be like ahhh... and in my mind - "this is exactly how a village should be. Tranquilising."

Longan fruit
When it comes to food, I am the most excited one wondering what are we going to have. By far, my palate did not resist any of the delicacies even the bizarre meal tastes quite good. In the evening, I went to my grandfather's fruit orchard and stroll around the village. The weather? - very stuffy at noon yet super-cold at night.

In the next upcoming days, we went to town and do a lot of shopping. We bought some traditional kuih and keropok (heavy and light snacks), dried Tahai fish, clothes, souvenirs and other goods. Besides Limbang, we also visit the neighbouring country - Brunei Darussalam. On the final day, we woke up very early at dusk, packing up our stuff, and get ready for the long journey to head back to Miri but this time by car passing Brunei. The duration was almost 4 hours. Totally exhausting and butt-cramping! Yet eventually, the trip ended up well as planned. Another wonderful experience gained.

Taman Awam Miri

Children's Paradise
Creatively landscaped
Taman Awam Miri - a creatively landscaped public park. A place that provides a pleasant environment for a family outing or for some light walking exercise. The whole park is built on a hillside. This park includes a botanical garden, observatory tower, a suspension bridge, a water theme park for kids, a well-equipped children's playground and food stalls.

Other facilities provided are like barbecue pit, jogging track and picnic area. Wondering about the entrance fee? No worries. This park is open to public daily and there is no charge given. The scenery is wonderful and tranquilizing.
Mesmerising

The surrounding area is clean, well cared by the authority. You can as well conquer your fear of height by walking on suspension bridge. For me, this place is quite nostalgic cause I've been here for so many times during my childhood. The best part of Taman Awam Miri is the man-made waterfall. What a jaw-dropping view!

Come and visit Taman Awam Miri to experience the excitement yourselves!

Conquer your fear!

Gadong Town Brunei

Gadong is located in the central east of Brunei-Muara district. Gadong is the largest metropolitan settlement area in Brunei and in Brunei-Muara district. It is only 5km from Bandar Seri Begawan. Gadong bustles with activity day and night, especially on weekends. Brunei's only McDonald's outlet is also located at Gadong.

The Mall, Gadong is Brunei's first, largest and most sophisticated shopping complex with more than 150 shops, a hotel and cineplexes allocated inside. The inside view is totally luxurious! and expensive! Well I only get to do some window shopping. Cheaper goods can be found in any store nearby. Besides The Mall, The Centrepoint - a flash business-class hotel is also located in trendy Gadong.

Kianggeh Jetty Brunei

Kianggeh jetty is located at the central of Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. I am completey fall in love with this place at first sight! The green, sparkling water of Kianggeh river hook my eyes the most. There are also boats that usually used by the local people as a public transport to reach Kampung Ayer speeding along the river. The view is amazingly stunning!

Apart from that, a fleamarket - Tamu Kianggeh is situated right across the river. Along the banks of Kianggeh river are packed with stalls and of course, the market offer a lot of goods and bargains. In Tamu Kianggeh, there are hundreds of small entrepreneurs which mostly are Bruneian Malay and few are Chinese. We get to grab some dried fish, traditional kuih and biscuits, as well as souvenirs. What makes this tamu become an interesting place to visit besides the low prices and high quality products offered is, many things sold here are not available in the conventional markets. To visitors who wish to savour the delicacies of Bruneian cuisine, this is the best place to start.

Fyaz Hamzason

Aloha guys! I'm Fyaz. A blogger, food enthusiast, love to travel, photographer, and currently furthering my study in a private college. I'm Chinese-Iban in race. My birthplace is Miri, Sarawak - land of the hornbills. I've worked in a branch of the busiest restaurant in the world - Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant as a waiter. Dealing with many kind of people each day, cleaning the table, dealing with rubbish and even jumping in the trash bin. What a dirty job isn't it? Yet the best part was, I'm gonna have kfc for brunch, lunch, and dinner for almost everyday! Completely finger lickin' good! Apart from that, I was in the national service since Dec 2014 till March 2015 in Similajau, Bintulu camp. I've gained a lot of wisdom and survival skills through PLKN. The training was fully-packed with bitter sweet memories. Besides national service and my working experience in KFC, the other best part of my life is when I was in high school especially in the final year. By far, I've no huge regret in life and constantly run my life based on this saying - live your life to the fullest, care less on insignificant matter and be happy.
